erctiledysfunctionTreating erectile dysfunction (ED) is popular, primarily because a drug company found a chemical that induced an erection. Until Viagra and its cousins arrived on the drug scene, ED was a private affliction. Everyone knew about it, but few stepped up and admitted their own problem. Drugs and advertising has brought ED out into the light. It even seems respectable to discuss ED in public. Many men and their partners have benefitted from Viagra’s ready availability. Not all.

Viagra relaxes certain muscles, allowing the mechanisms that stimulate an erection to engorge with blood and become rigid. Some men should not use this kind of drug. It can even be lethal if used simultaneously with drugs such as nitroglycerin. This kind of ED treatment is distributed all over the body because no drug “knows” exactly where it should go, and what it should do. Dilation in one area may be what the man wants, but what about dilation in other places – such as the heart or brain? Some men have reported severe headache when using these drugs. What good is being able to have sexual intercourse if you are suffering with a massive migraine? Isn’t enjoyment one of the main reasons people engage in sex?

Long before the Viagra drugs appeared on the scene, doctors were helping men by delivering small doses of potent dilating drugs directly to the place they want them to work – right at the penis. The most common method is by injection. No, don’t cringe; extremely small, sharp needles do the job without discomfort. Yes, it might seem excruciating, but isn’t.

We make a preparation (by prescription) for this use and our customers return regularly for refills. There are basically two approaches to this method. One, use different doses of three drugs – essentially making custom combinations for each man. The other is to use different amounts of a standard mixture – amounts that meet the needs of the individual. Most of the preparations we dispense are of the second type. Some men use 0.15ml, while others require 3 to 4 times that amount. The doctor adjusts volumes as needed after conferring with the patient. We package the doses in a prefilled syringe that has the needle already attached. It is the most cost effective method.
