I
often find articles on other
websites that I think our
readers would be interested in.
That's what I'm posting on this
page. I am not planning any
particular organization of
topics. Each addition will be
placed at the top. I will retain
as many article links as
practical. Some links may be
removed because the material is
no longer in date or relevant.
Please check back often.
Pharmacy
compounding is facing serious challenges
from pharmaceutical manufacturers and the
FDA, but we can set the record straight and
serve our clients by relying on truth and by
using a good strategy to tell it. For too
long, the FDA and pharmaceutical interests
have spread misinformation about
compounding. I think it ought to stop.
Here’s a website that will not only correct
our critics, but also to put them on notice
that we are watching and the days of
maligning our profession with impunity are
over. When you want to know the truth behind
a news article or a government report that
attacks your compounder take a few minutes
to check out this valuable website.
Be careful - be
VERY careful - about what you believe about
drugs and surgery. Dr. Darshak Sanghavi is a
pediatric cardiologist. He has written a
clear paper about how drug companies use
numbers and statistics to convince you and
your doctor that their latest drug is THE
best treatment for you.
But, their claims depend on HOW they have
manipulated the data to make their point.
ONE EXAMPLE: Using a statin drug reduces a
person's risk of heart problems from 7.5% to
5.3% over a five year period. That's a
reduction of 2.2%. However, published
materials about Pravachol (a statin) report
a 31% reduction. How can they do that? The
31% represents a RELATIVE REDUCTION.
Actually, out of every 50 people who take
the drug for 5 years there will be one less
heart event. That isn't as impressive as
31%.
I am not afraid
of any flu. Why? One, I think that the flu
bugs are ALWAYS with us and we need to take
precautions against getting sick. I
recommend eating well, exercise, and
avoiding the bugs. Keeping our hands CLEAN
goes a long way toward staying healthy.
Here's a good paper published by the
American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine.
BTW, I do NOT think that the flu vaccines
help at all.
I admit that I
enjoy soda pop. I don't like all the sugar
and chemicals in there but it sure tastes
good. I limit myself to one or two a month,
usually when dining out. Perhaps the diet
versions are better because they have less
sugar. No, I guess not. They take out the
sugar and replace it with another chemical.
Am I overreacting on this, making more out
of it than necessary? Here's a short piece
by Leigh Ann Garstecki. She's the Nutrition
& Lifestyle Coach at Caring Medical and
Rehabilitation Services in Oak Park,
Illinois.
Most of us BELIEVE that soy products are
healthy for us. They supposedly help our
hormone system, build bones, protect our
hearts, and keep us mentally alert. However,
merely believing something doesn't make it
true. The evidence about soy says the
opposite of our beliefs. Soy really isn't a
natural wonder. In fact, there is strong
evidence that regular consumption of soy
products can be very unhealthy. Do yourself
a healthy favor. Learn the facts about soy
and do your best to keep it out of your
body.
